i didn't like the stranger by camus one bit. i remember getting angry and wanting to throw the book at the wall. the angsty indifferent protagonist was not helpful for my hormonal teenage self who was already swirling deep inside of an existential black hole. oh my g, and paradise lost? don't even get me started.
high school literature curricula should include at least one soothing text that details out the preciousness and fragility of life, and to love the rose like the little prince. if i were a high school teacher, i would stuff my students' backpacks with copies of the little prince as a parting gift into adulthood.
i'll leave 'ye with my favorite quote from le petit prince:
"voici mon secret. il est très simple: on ne voit bien qu'avec le cœur. l'essentiel est invisible pour les yeux."
"here is my secret. it is very simple: it is only with the heart that one can see rightly; what is essential is invisible to the eye."
